Today was the day the Wisconsin sit-in participants were to have vacated the capitol in Madison.
The giant that is the right-wing union-busting machine, whose face is Walker and whose brain is firmly embedded in its Koch, faced down ordinary Wisconsinites. The giant blinked. The protesters, some 600 souls, prepared themselves to be arrested. And...nothing happened. The capitol police announced they would not, in fact, remove the demonstrators, and no one would be arrested. Perhaps it was the prospect of finding jail cells for 600 people, or perhaps the presence of dozens of ministers, priests and rabbis caused the monster to back down. Perhaps, ultimately, the monster will win and the workers will lose their collective bargaining rights. But for now, for this one night, the forces of justice smiled on the working man and woman. And if you can read this, thank a teacher.
